In the wake of the increasingly dire economic news of the past three weeks, Judy Schechtman and Marc Frankel want to call your attention to an online piece by Patrick Bassett, President of NAIS. Pat discusses the basis for what we are seeing on the front page in terms of how it affects independent schools. More importantly, he frames a strategy for schools to use in responding that is rooted in field experience from schools facing calamitous times.

The essence of Pat’s advice is to avoid extravagance and think strategically about (1) ways to get through tough times with stability, and (2) what opportunities might emerge as a result.
